38th annual SF Jazz Festival lineup to feature Jane Monheit, Deltron 3030 – San Francisco Chronicle

The 38th annual San Francisco Jazz Festival plans to feature an eclectic roster highlighted by the Grammy-nominated pop vocalist Jane Monheit, Bay Area hip-hop collective Deltron 3030, experimental British piano trio GoGo Penguin, Afrobeat ensemble Kokoroko and 20-year-old Bahamian trumpeter Giveton Gilen, organizers announced on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Set to run June 9-21, the SFJazz festival program includes 43 concerts over 13 days, with performances scheduled to take place at the SFJazz Center’s Robert N. Miner Auditorium, Joe Henderson Lab and Herbst Theatre.

The festival also boasts shows by Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, percussionist Joachim Cooder, bluegrass outfit David Grisman’s Dawg Trio, instrumentalists John Scofield and Dave Holland, funk ensemble Huntertones, vocalist Kim Nalley, swing act Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, SFJazz Collective and others.

The festival plans to kick things off with a free party at the outdoor Proxy space in Hayes Valley, along Octavia Street, on June 9, featuring live music from Orchestra Gold and Ghost & the City. There will also be a beer garden, classic films and food trucks.

SFJazz also announced the lineup for its 2020 Summer Sessions concert series, scheduled for July 9 through Aug. 16. It will feature Savion Glover, Sandy Cressman, Keb’ Mo’, Diana Gameros, Tommy Castro, Marcia Ball, Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, Ruthie Foster, Chick Corea & the Spanish Heart Band, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Joey Alexander, Nubya Garcia and Herb Alpert, among others.
