Vocal groups The Manhattan Transfer and Take 8, the duo The War and Treaty and a centennial celebration of Art Blakey will be among the attractions at the fall edition of the biannual Exit 0 Jazz Festival, taking place in theaters, bars and restaurants throughout Cape May, Nov. 7-10. Other performers will include David Sanborn, John Oates’ Good Road Band, Bria Skonberg, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra and The Bad Plus.
Most of the sets will take place within walking distance of each other in downtown Cape May. The Manhattan Transfer/Take 6 and The War and Treaty, though, will be at the Schmidtchen Theater at Lower Cape May Regional High School; free shuttle service will be offered.
As you can tell from the videos below, the festival’s definition of “jazz” is a broad one; bands that draw heavily from soul, R&B, rock, pop, Latin and other forms of music are featured.
There is also, as is customary for this festival, a strong New Orleans/Louisiana flavor to much of the music.
Here is the schedule, as well as videos for most of the acts. In addition, there will be day-opening second line parades starting at Convention Hall, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m.; at Cabanas, Nov. 9 at 11:30 p.m.; and at the Washington Street Mall, Nov. 10 at noon.
