AJR shared the trailer for ‘Soul’ on their social media, along with the message for their fans

AJR has never been afraid to step out of the box, from basing a song on The Office to their theatrical live performances. It only seems fitting that the group would partner with Pixar for the studios’ upcoming animated movie, Soul.

AJR’s song, “Overture,” from Neotheater, appears as the background music for Disney and Pixar’s Soul teaser trailer, released in November 2019. They shared the news with fans, posting the trailer on their Instagram and Twitter accounts.

“So excited to announce this secret we’ve been keeping for so long,” the Instagram caption said. “The newest Pixar movie was just announced, and you may recognize the music? Truly one of the coolest things to ever be a part of!”

What is Disney and Pixar’s ‘Soul’ about?

Next summer, Joe Gardner will discover his brilliant, passionate self. Pixar’s Soul tells the story of one jazz musician, named Joe Gardner, as he becomes a different version of himself — literally. Thanks to the teaser trailer, viewers saw this character transform, presumably, into his soul, to discover the most important parts of himself. Voice actors in this animated film include Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, and Daveed Diggs. Additionally, Soul is directed by Pete Docter.

Pixar released the trailer for their upcoming movie, Soul, on Nov. 7, 2019. Almost instantly, it jumped to one of the top trending spots on YouTube, earning over five million views in a few days. Of course, the trailer was set to one of AJR’s songs.

Once fans saw the teaser trailer for Pixar’s upcoming movie, they congratulated the group on social media. One comment on AJR’s Instagram post said, “to be honest I got more excited about hearing you guys in the trailer than the movie itself.”

“I was immensely proud hearing AJR’s song in the trailer. They’re growing so much and this will help send them soaring. Watching them realize their dream of audiovisual storytelling is an amazing thing to witness,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Have y’all seen the new Pixar movie trailer Soul? Do you people realize that they used an AJR song? An AJR song! I jumped out of bed when I heard it,” said another Twitter user.

Disney and Pixar’s Soul premieres in the United States on June 19, 2020. Music by AJR, including “Overture,” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major streaming platforms.
