BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WTVF) — The power of music is helping people battling addictions. ” Recovery Unplugged , ” a rehab facility that incorporates music into their program, is opening its doors in Brentwood.
“Music has a way of reaching the soul that words alone don’t do,” said Dr. Barry Reiman, VP of business development for Recovery Unplugged.
Dr. Reiman explains that the program has traditional treatment methods like medical detox and counseling, but they also incorporate music. For instance, during a patient’s stay there could be live performances, songwriting opportunities, and personalized playlists. He says it’s a way to keep clients interested while making progress.
“Music is a mood changer,” said Dr. Reiman, “For example, a song comes on that makes you turn the radio up and jam out…that song brought you to a place that brings you great joy. Music hits area of brain same area that drugs affect.
Patients start each day with a “mic check,” where the facility blasts music and allows them to shake out their doubts and worries to begin the day on a positive note. And hopefully by the end of the program, patients realize they are able to compose their own story — a story of bravery and triumph.
The grand opening of “Recovery Unplugged” is this Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at the new location (255 Wilson Pike Circle, Brentwood, TN, 37027) from 5:30-8:30 pm.
