Yael Dray-Barel is a French/Israeli singer/songwriter influenced by rock and gypsy jazz, and her songs often incorporate the five languages she speaks. Argentinian guitarist Gabriel Hermida infuses his compositions with the essence of classical tango, flamenco and contemporary jazz. Together, the pair will salute such timeless French songs as “La Vie en Rose,” “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” and “Hymne a L’Amour, along with work from Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, at Club Bonafide in New York City

Equally skilled on oboe, english horn, flutes, clarinets and saxophones, his wide range of skills and prowess as an improviser quickly garnered high demand as a sideman. He has performed and recorded with, among many others, Michael Brecker, David Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Toots Thielemans, Michel LeGrand, Tim Garland, Joe Locke and David Taylor; with superstars Patti Austin, Deborah Gibson, Hugh Jackman and Liza Minelli.

The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra began its life as the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1966.The world-famous Village Vanguard jazz club in New York City booked the newly formed band for three Monday nights that February. Those performances were wildly successful and the engagement was extended indefinitely. The Village Vanguards owner, Max Gordon, told Mel Lewis, Well keep it going until it tapers off. Over half a century and more than 2700 Monday nights later, it still hasnt. The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra stands apart from all other modern ensembles of its kind and is still as strong and vital as ever.
