MikeC/O THE DIRTY KNOBS

Mike Campbell was one of the driving forces of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, who co-wrote countless hits like “Refugee” and “Here Comes My Girl” alongside Petty himself. After a 40 year run as guitarist and vocalist of The Heartbreakers , Campbell will bring his new band, The Dirty Knobs, to Tampa for the first time on April 28.

The Dirty Knobs’ debut album Wreckless Abandon is slated to release on March 20, as Campbell and the rest of his Knobs crew recently announced a U.S tour in support of their highly-anticipated full-length LP.

The mid-Spring date that’s set to fill Ybor’s The Orpheum with Tampa Bay classic rock fans, is the last date on The Dirty Knobs’ nationwide tour. This grand finale show in Tampa is rather fitting as Campbell himself is a Florida native, who climbed Gainesville’s musical ranks in the early 1970s— where he first met Tom Petty.

Campbell first formed The Dirty Knobs about 15 years ago with other members Jason Sinay, Lance Morrison and Matt Laug, but the rock group was a casual endeavor that never officially toured or released an album. With Petty’s unexpected death in 2017 ending the Heartbreakers, Campbell made The Dirty Knobs his main priority.

Although the Dirty Knobs have yet to release music, their sound will be different than the mellow, feel-good rock of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Fleetwood Mac, who Campbell toured with last year.  Expect its first album Wreckless Abandon to be filled with no-frills, 1960’s-sounding rock and roll.

Tickets for The Dirty Knobs Orpheum show are available at.eventbrite.com, starting at $30.
