Roots Fest regular Adam Hood returns to the musical lineup for 2020, along with Mandolin Orange, Flatland Cavalry, Bishop Gunn and Justin Townes Earle.
This year’s music and food festival, to be held April 25, will feature comestibles by Brandon Wimnan, executive chef of host Local Roots, with Cole Ellis, Donnie Ferneau, Jessica Gamble, and “Chopped, Jr.” champion Fuller Goldsmith.
For its fourth year, Roots Fest moves from its former home at Government Plaza to the riverfront area in downtown Tuscaloosa. Gates will open at noon, though admission is free for the family-friendly event.
Roots Fest was created by Local Roots food truck and catering company owners Dustin and Kacie Spruill as an Alabama culture sampler.
Local Roots launched in 2016 with one of the first food trucks in the Druid City, and has grown from three employees to 20, adding on a catering business.
The Spruills recently announced they’ve begun construction on a bricks-and-mortar location in the Tuscaloosa Galleria, aiming for a spring opening. The restaurant will build around Local Roots’ popular burgers and fries, flatbreads, salads, and chicken sandwiches, adding on a children’s menu, as well as beer and wine.
