Son of the late, great composer Chico O’Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley’s Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Michael Kerr is a singer/songwriter from Belfast and has recently embarked on a journey around the US to play and share his music beginning in New York City. Influenced heavily by Tom Petty, Noel Gallagher, Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison, Michael will be playing a mixture of originals, covers and Irish folk songs for us a Prohibition on the 26th May from 8.30pm. His songwriting has evolved to form melody driven songs on a foundation of swelling guitars and heartfelt lyrics and following the release of his latest EP in 2018, Treasure Chest, Michael has played support to well known artists such as Steve Earle, John Oates, Nancy Griffiths and some better known Irish artists such as The Hot House Flowers and Bagatelle.

Age Limit: 21 and OverLifelong friends and deep-north natives, musical group Michigan Rattlers play heavy-hearted folk-rock with an aching dose of Midwestern nice. Graham Young (guitar), Adam Reed (upright bass), and Christian Wilder (piano) began writing music and performing together in their Northern Michigan high school. “Petoskey is a small place. Beautiful, but secluded. It’s hard to start a musical career in a place where there are more deer than people.” Still, they regularly played every bar, cafe, and stage in town, developing a musical chemistry informed by the likes of AC/DC, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Seger, and more. After a few years apart, Reed and Young settled down in Los Angeles, recorded a short demo, and began playing locally. During his career as a musician he has worked with many great musicians such as Allan Holdsworth, Wayne Krantz, Frank Gambale, James Muller and Dale Barlow. He is well known and respected for his prolific writing, and unique harmony and rhythm, which features on over 20 CDs of original music. His was a musical family, his father’s love of jazz enabled Sean to hear the music of Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and others as a young child. His father’s mother Muriel Cohen was a concert pianist and the first Australian to perform Olivier Messiaen’s Catalogue D’Oiseax publicly. To this day Sean is still entranced by Debussy and Messiaen.

Alejandro Avils is a first generation Cuban-American who comes from a long lineage of musicians. In fact, Mr. Avils’ family is in the Guiness Book of World Records for having the longest, continuous musical group in the world. The Orquesta Hermanos Avils was started by his great-grandfather, Manuel Avils, in 1882 in Holgun, Cuba, and is still in existence today. Based in NYC, Alejandro Avils works as an adjunct professor at Hofstra University teaching saxophone and jazz improvisation while performing as a professional free-lance musician in genres ranging from “Straight Ahead” jazz to “Afro-Cuban” music. The presence of her father’s musician friends, including Clark Terry and Major Holley, inspired her focus on Jazz. Her first paid musical engagement was with her own band at Clark Terry’s 75th Birthday Party; she was 10 years old. Nat Adderley Jr. was born in Quincy, Florida on May 23, 1955. The scion of a famed jazz family, he grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, moving to that suburban New York City community with his family when he was five years old. He started playing piano as a child and had his first song, “I’m on My Way”, recorded by his uncle Cannonball on the 1967 album Why Am I Treated So Bad! by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet when the young Nat Adderley was only 11 years old. While at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City, Adderley first met Luther Vandross, who attended Taft High School in the Bronx. It is with Vandross, who Adderley would later spend much of his musical career. He attended Yale University, graduating with a degree in African American studies.

Known as the Latin Madonna, Marisela is a native of Los Angeles whose sexy outfits and blond hair contributed as much to her fame as her girlish vocal style. Marisela is one of very few singers who have managed to survive in the music business only by playing concerts in Mexican venues known as palenques. She will always remain a favorite in the hearts of her audience. She is now known as “La Dama de Hierro.” To date, Marisela has recorded 14 albums.

Yael Dray-Barel is a French/Israeli singer/songwriter influenced by rock and gypsy jazz, and her songs often incorporate the five languages she speaks. Argentinian guitarist Gabriel Hermida infuses his compositions with the essence of classical tango, flamenco and contemporary jazz. Together, the pair will salute such timeless French songs as “La Vie en Rose,” “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” and “Hymne a L’Amour, along with work from Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, at Club Bonafide in New York City

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O’Farrill — leader of the “first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz” (NY Times) — was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O’Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley’s Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.
