On Sunday, February 23, at 2:30pm, the Jerry Portnoy and Brother Phil will be performing “Blues for a Sunday Afternoon” at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. Jerry Portnoy has played on several Grammy Award-winning albums, travelled the world and performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Smithsonian, and London’s Royal Albert Hall. Portnoy, on harmonica and vocals, will be joined by Brother Phil on guitar and vocals.
Blues Harp Musician Jerry Portnoy grew up in the blues-rich atmosphere of Chicago. He was a member of the fabled Muddy Waters Blues Band, led the Legendary Blues Band, and was a featured member of the Eric Clapton Band for four years.
Brother Phil has been performing his own unique blues style for over 20 years. Known for his fired-up stage presence, soulful vocals, and dangerous guitar playing, he has played all over New England and the greater U.S. taking the stage in every kind of venue ranging from small clubs, dance halls such as the Cape Cod Melody Tent, to festivals, concert venues, and the original House of Blues in Cambridge MA.

About the Performers:
Jerry Portnoy was born in 1943 and grew up in the blues-rich atmosphere of Chicago’s famous Maxwell Street Market during the golden age of Chicago Blues. He began his professional career in the late 60s and since that time has performed, live and on television, for millions of people around the world. During a career that includes six years as a member of the fabled Muddy Waters Blues Band, another six as leader of the Legendary Blues Band, four years at the head of his own band The Streamliners, and another four as a featured member of the Eric Clapton Band, his touring schedule has carried him to every state in the union and twenty-eight foreign countries on six continents, with performances at the White House, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Smithsonian, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and at major jazz festivals worldwide, including the Newport Jazz Festival, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Warsaw International Jazz Jamboree, the Hawaii Pacific Jazz and Music Fair, and the Grande Parade du Jazz in Nice, France.
Brother Phil was also a featured entertainer for the ESPN Winter X Games at Mt. Snow Vermont, four years running. Inspired by diverse influences such as B.B.King, Jimi Hendrix, David Bromberg, Bob Dylan, Aber & Collins, Delbert McClinton, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Dr.John, Hank Williams, Louis Armstrong, Professor Longhair, The Grateful Dead, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf, & countless others, he’s taken his accumulated knowledge and love of roots music and 20 years of hard road work to forge a strong, tough, original American Sound, all the while keeping his energies focused on an eye toward the preservation and perpetuation of American music.
