There’s quite a few bands named Chico (stylized “CHICO,”) but once you stumble on the one with hard proggresive punk riffs, you’ve found the Nashville-based band that’s headlining The Bends on Thursday in support of a 2019 single, “Amphidromic Expectations.”

The other two acts on the bill, St. Pete’s Sci-fi surf rock outfit The Venus and Orlando new wave punk band Gamma Waves, give solid Florida support to the southern conceptual rock visitor. Although all three bands live in different genres, they all still explore psychedelic and melodic themes.

Chico’s influences include King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Modest Mouse and Yes— so expect some interesting ‘80s-inspired breakdowns.

Chico w/The Venus/Gamma Waves. Thu. Feb. 20, 9 p.m. No cover. The Bends, St. Petersburg. INFO
