The team behind Australia’s longest-running independent dance label, Central Station Records, have launched a brand new imprint called Soul Modern.
Based in Sydney, Soul Modern has been created to celebrate emerging talent across the neo-soul and RnB scenes, and aims to help rising soul talent from home and abroad go further.
The new label is helmed by experienced A&R man Archie Magliulo (who has worked with the likes of Starley).
“Personally, this genre of music has always been a huge inspiration from a very early age, so naturally, it’s very exciting for us to be able to create an additional outlet from this team of music lovers here at the label,” Magliulo tells TMN exclusively.
“The Soul Modern imprint will cater for all things Soul, R&B and groove-based music with a modern twist, showcasing a range of talents from both here in Australia and abroad”
Soul Modern’s debut release is the latest cut from homegrown RnB act Wilsonn titled ‘Standing Floors’.
Wilsonn got started in 2017 with his Idiocentric mixtape, before earning praise at home and abroad with debut single ‘Even If I Know’.
He has also written with Mau5trap’s Attlass, collaborating on the track ‘Batch’ which cracked the Billboard electronic Top 10.
‘Standing Floors’ was produced by Grammy-nominated duo Christian Rich, who’ve previously worked with Kanye West, Earl Sweatshirt, Lizzo and Drake.
“’Standing Floors’ was written for the Warriors of this world. The outcasts, the dreamers, the ones who take no for an answer, whether it be in struggles in personal life or professional life,” he says.
“The ones that are never afraid of failing to grow! This song is for them, the ones who never give up!!”
Soul Modern is looking forward to working with more emerging artists within soul and RnB.
