After a long day at work on the road, you can find Doreen Hildner slipping on her boots and turning on the tunes.
She puts the Doreen in dancing with Doreen. She is a dance instructor who leads a weekly line dancing class at the Cadillac Senior Center.
She said, “There are many days where it’s been a pretty rough day but we know we have line dancing to come to.”
The residents are also able to use this class to brush off their everyday stress.
Line dancer Amy Martin said, “It kind of forces you to let go. Let go of what happened during the day or what’s going to happen…It’s kind of my outlet to come at night. It’s kind of good for your soul. Music’s good, the group of ladies we dance with are fabulous-we kind of all lean on each other at times.”
It gives them a little pep in their step.
Doreen said, “We go through our personal struggles and they’re there for you. I went through breast cancer and these people were here for me.”
People in this class step forward and support each other through life’s ups and downs.
Doreen said, “Nobody judges anybody, we all laugh with each other. There’s a whole lot of laughter that goes on during class.”
People of all ages are able to give it a try. People just like Cindy Merley.
She said, “I started this beginner class when I was 70 so I just wanted to keep moving. I wasn’t even a fan of country music but I thought I’m going to try – and since I loved it now I like country music.”
Out of all the steps in each routine, they all agree on their favorite – “My favorite move is when we all do it together”.
They are hoping to get more community members involved and you can learn more about the classes by clicking here.
These classes are called Dancing with Doreen.
She said, “Come and join us, you won’t regret it!”
