Residents came out to enjoy an afternoon of free music during the Lehigh Acres Rotary Rock Blues & Brews event held March 7.
This is the eighth year that the Lehigh Acres Rotary Club and Lehigh Acres Foundation have held the event in Lehigh.
“This is our first year holding this event at Veterans Park. Last year we had more than 750 people attend, and so far this is looking like a pretty good turn-out for this year,” Lehigh Rotary President John Graham said.

According to Graham, this marks 30 years for the local Lehigh Acres Rotary Club, and it’s these types of fundraising event that support the Rotary club in many community projects.
“The support we receive from events like today help us fund local and international projects. Recently we gave free dictionaries and thesauruses to all third and fourth grade students in Lehigh Acres; free tickets to a baseball game in May for all students accompanied by an adult; a free Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner (1,200 meals were given out last year) and scholarships to local students to attend college,” Graham said.
This year’s live music event took place at Veteran’s Park at 55 Homestead Road. The event was free to the public and started at 3 p.m. and ran until 11 p.m. Attendees enjoyed the sounds of five local popular blues and rock bands that have become favorites at venues including Music Walk, Chicago Boys as well as other local venues.
Attendees also had a choice to dine from a variety of food trucks and enjoy refreshments on site. Rotary members cooked burgers, sausage and hot dogs. Plus, a beer tent served beer, wine and sodas throughout the evening.
According to Lehigh resident Emily Mack, her family has been attending the event for the past three years.
“It’s a nice place to relax with the family and hear some great music. We come out with our blanket and enjoy the day together,” Mack said.
Besides funding local projects, the local Rotary also contributes on an international level said Graham. “We work with Habitat for Humanity locally to provide houses and contribute to the international organization which just sent a $1 million in grants towards wheel chairs to other countries, and funds to build an infant heart hospital in San Salvador.”
Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and advance goodwill within the community.
