Central Lyon Fire crews responded Sunday afternoon to brush fires in the Dayton area and one possible in Stagecoach. One fire near the “D” hill behind Dayton High School was reportedly knocked down just after 2 p.m. and firefighters are continuing to work on a fire located on Como Mountain.

Recently, I received a photo of a stink bug that I suspected was the invasive brown marmorated stink bug. However, the insect seemed to be more charcoal gray than the typical brown color. Insects can look very different not only at different stages of development but also when found in different areas.

A 36-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 2500 block of Kit Sierra for parole and probation violation, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.

According to the report, Lindsie Newman was arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies after they learned that Newman, a parolee absconder, was staying at a residence on Kit Sierra Way.

Three-term chair of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Norm Harry died this week. He was 65.

Harry was an advocate for tribal water rights, and he was instrumental in getting the Truckee River Operating Agreement signed. That agreement designated much of the Truckee River waters to the tribe and settled claims among multiple parties for water rights.

Harry was a champion of the land, water and Indigenous people.
