San Diego band Thee Sacred Souls have a sound that hearkens back to the ’60s Motown and Stax record era.
The trio only started playing a year ago. But by their second show, they were signed to Daptone Records, the funk and soul label that brought us Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse.
Thee Sacred Souls don’t just replicate what’s been done, they bring a fresh spin on the oldies, or as the soul music revival has come to be known “souldies.” And they use their voices for social change in the song, “Give Us Justice.”
Drummer Alex Garcia, bassist Sal Salmano, and vocalist Josh Lane joined Midday Edition on Thursday as part of this year’s Summer Music Series.
