The Cape Breton Jazz Festival kicked off Friday afternoon with one of three free concerts. This year’s event also features two ticketed night performances. All of the performances are being held at The Convent located at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation in Sydney. There will be a free show today beginning at 3:30 p.m. and one on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. On stage Friday were festival organizer Carl Getto on piano, left, singer Linda Muise, drummer Ronnie Leadbeater, trombone player James Munroe, bass guitar Red Mike MacDonald and sax player Michael MacDonald. SYDNEY, N.S. —

The Cape Breton Jazz Festival kicked off Friday afternoon with one of three free concerts.

This year’s event also features two ticketed night performances. All of the performances are being held at The Convent located at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation in Sydney.

There will be a free show Saturday beginning at 3:30 p.m. and one on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m.
