Live/livestream concert picks for Sarasota-Bradenton-Charlotte: Oct. 1-7 – Sarasota Herald-Tribune

Due to social distancing measures to help contain the spread of coronavirus, some musicians are livestreaming their concerts on Facebook and other outlets. Others are performing in-person under Florida’s current social distancing guidelines, and some are doing both. Here are some upcoming live and/or livestream concerts by musicians who either live in or have ties to the Sarasota-Manatee area. Bradenton-based blues act Doug Deming & the Jewel Tones has started playing live shows again, including at dual Mattison’s locations this week. Though the group resides in the Sarasota-Manatee area, they have a national fanbase, earning a Blues Blast Music Award nomination last year for Blues Band. Sarasota music venue and restaurant The Blue Rooster, one of the top spots in the region to see blues and roots music, is set to reopen again this week. For its first show back Friday, it will feature Sarasota soul-blues group Ari and the Alibis, fronted by singer Ariella McManus. Sarasota barbecue spot and venue Stottlemyer’s Smokehouse continues to host live music, with this week’s schedule including Soul Purpose. The group plays a range of reggae from Bob Marley to Stick Figure, with its lineup featuring members from Democracy, Pressure Dem and the Strangewaves. Twinkle and Rock Soul Radio

Sarasota brewery Big Top Brewing Company has also been hosting live music, with Twinkle and Rock Soul Radio among the acts scheduled to play there this week. The Sarasota rock band is fronted by Twinkle Schascle Yochim, who was signed to Warner Bros. in the ’90s, releasing the album “Haunted by Real Life” under the name Schascle. Florida blues guitarist/singer-songwriter and former Anna Maria Island resident Damon Fowler has been hosting Fowler’s Garage livestream concerts on his Facebook page, sometimes featuring guest musician friends. Fowler is an acclaimed solo artist who released his last album “The Whiskey Bayou Session” on Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records. Sarasota rock group Kettle of Fish is also set to play The Blue Rooster’s reopening weekend, along with with its weekly Sunday Funday show at Big Top Brewing Company. Fronted by guitarist and singer Dana Lawrence, the band’s current lineup also includes returning members Greg Poulos and Chris Guertin as well as Pat McDonald, a former drummer in the band of Charlie Daniels. Along with playing in-person performances again, Bradenton guitarist Steven Paradis continues his online show “Live from Paradis’ Porch.” Paradis performs a wide-ranging selection of covers, including The Beatles’ “For No One,” Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” J.J. Cale’s “Magnolia” and Radiohead’s “Creep” during one of his past shows. He even recently performed a livestream concert playing the Yusuf/Cat Stevens album “Tea for the Tillerman,” which turns 50 this year, in full. J.P. Soars and the Red Hots

Englewoods on Dearborn also reopens after a vacation, with South Florida-based blues guitarist and singer J.P. Soars and his group the Red Hots set to play Wednesday, according to the venue. Last year, Soars earned a Blues Rock Artist Blues Music Award nomination and released the Tab Benoit-produced album “Let Go of the Reins,” a follow-up to 2018’s “Southbound I-95,” featuring nods to his Florida home on tracks like “Ain’t No Dania Beach.” 7 p.m. Wednesday; Englewoods on Dearborn, 362 W. Singer-songwriter, Billy Joel band member and Bradenton resident Mike DelGuidice has been hosting Live on the Porch livestream concerts on his Facebook page, which he now says he’ll hold every Wednesday night. The shows draw around 50,000 views per episode, DelGuidice says, with Joel even hosting one on his own Facebook page. Along with touring with Joel as a guitarist/vocalist and fronting the Long Island-based Piano Man tribute band Big Shot, DelGuidice is a solo musician whose work includes “Ordinary Guy,” the theme song for the Kevin James CBS sitcom “Kevin Can Wait.” Show dates may vary based on touring schedule; check Facebook page in advance. 8:30 p.m. Wednesday; facebook.com/mikedelguidiceofficial
