It wasn’t the “Highway to Hell,” but police in Montana still felt AC/DC music was most appropriate to handle the situation at hand.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office noted that its deputies in the West Yellowstone area sometimes encounter unusual calls – like when they need to herd bison off the road.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to getting the large animals to move, but some loud rock music always seems to work in a pinch.
“When deputies respond to a bison on the road, they turn on lights and siren and encourage the animal to leave the road with an air horn,” the department posted on Facebook along with a picture of a recent encounter. “With a reluctant bison, they’ve been known to play AC/DC’s ‘Hells Bells’ over the speakers – that usually seems to work.”
This is just the latest evidence complied in a very unscientific study that seems to prove that wild animals are leery of rock and roll.
A woman from British Columbia recently caught James Hetfield’s attention after she was interviewed about her run-in with a cougar. Dee Gallant told she was walking her dog when she used Metallica music to scare off the big cat.
“I thought it was the noisiest thing on my phone that would probably scare it, that was also the message I wanted to convey to the cougar,” Gallant said. “As soon as the first notes blared out it ran into the bush.”
The moral of the story is that rock music is kryptonite to wild animals.
