Singer-songwriter Billy Buchanan will bring his nonstop, no-holds-barred 1950s-themed show, “Pioneers of Rock-n-Soul,” to the University of Findlay on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Lovers of Motown and R&B will want to catch Buchanan’s show, which includes a live band, when he hits the stage of the Winebrenner Building’s TLB Auditorium at 7 p.m. as part of the university’s Music Bach’s Concert Series. Tickets cost $15 and will be available for purchase at the door.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Buchanan’s musical roots date back to his father, who drew him toward soul, blues and rock. His shows see him channel the great performers of soul music, performing as Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and others, changing costumes and performing legendary hits.

In keeping with the 1950s-themed performance, attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their best 1950s styled clothing to participate in a 1950s costume contest.

Along with his homages to classic performers, Buchanan is an award-winning songwriter who has opened for or shared the stage with Harry Connick Jr., The Temptations, Chaka Khan and others. As a sideman, he’s played bass, guitar or sang background vocals for Rebecca St. James, Michael Tait and John Carter Cash.

The Music Bach’s Concert Series is sponsored by the University of Findlay’s Student Activities Board. The series schedule is available online at www.findlay.edu/offices/student-affairs/student-activities/community
