The city of Deer Park’s annual Concert in the Park series continues at Dow Park every Thursday night this summer from 7-8:30 p.m. with plenty of local artists headlining the popular events.
“The park has undergone extensive renovations over the past few years, including a $1.5 million renovation of the pavilion area where the concerts take place,” said Jacob Zuniga, assistant director of parks and recreation.
“We are looking forward to being back in Dow Park, 610 E. San Augustine, and watch families from the community enjoy the concerts while also enjoying all the park has to offer.”
The free concert series, which started June 7, continues July 11 when Nick Norris takes the stage on what officials are calling “Faith Night.”
On July 18, The On3 Band will perform smooth jazz, and on July 25, the 1950s rock-n-roll band Johnny and the Spinsations will play on “Senior Night.”
“The opportunity to showcase local talent to the community is what we strive to achieve each year,” Zuniga said. “The Houston area has so many great local artists, and we try to build a diverse concert lineup so we can reach the wide variety of musical tastes in Deer Park.”
Zuniga said the concert series’ popularity has grown over the years.
“The community has responded positively to the new concert layout and renovations,” Zuniga said.
During the renovations at Dow Park, the series was relocated to the Jimmy Burke Activity Center, 500 W. 13th St. Renovations were completed in the fall of 2018.
While the music is playing, there will be plenty of other activities to enjoy.
“Families can enjoy the nearby splash park, playground area, walking trail, tennis courts, Dow Park Pool, sand volleyball courts and other amenities around the park,” Zuniga said.
And don’t worry about food because there will be plenty of food trucks available, such as Gelu Italian Ice and Tailgate Sliderz.
Deer Park City Council approved an ordinance on April 16 that allows food trucks to operate in the community if they follow certain guidelines.
Zuniga said city officials are working to have more food trucks featured as the series continues.
People attending the concerts are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray, water and a “craving for some good music in the park.”
