Soul/R&B singer Eric Roberson will wrap up the 2019 Levitt Amp Concert Series Thursday night, Oct. 24, at Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd. The free concert starts at 7 p.m.
This New Jersey native and Howard University alum was the first independent artist to be nominated for a BET Award (in 2007) and was the recipient of the Underground Artist of the Year BET Virtual Award, with Rahsaan Patterson, in 2008.
He was nominated in 2010 and 2011 for a Grammy Award in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category. In 2011, his studio album, “Mister Nice Guy,” debuted in the Top 5 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts. In 2012, he won the Soul Train Music Award for Independent Artist Of The Year.
Roberson released three albums in 2017: “Earth,” “Wind” and “Fire.”
The inspiration behind the trio of albums was to pay homage to that iconic group, as well as use music to voice some of today’s topical issues. He released an EP, “1993,” in April.
