NY-based hard rock project ALYXX latest single “My Last Goodbye” was released on February 21st. The track, which is an open-ended goodbye to a toxic vice, is an eclectic and dark modern hard rock powerhouse, featuring compelling lead vocals and extensive emotion. Theatrical and dynamic, ALYXX is creating a unique blend of theatrics and rock instrumentation to create a synth-metal dream.
ALYXX is a hard rock group started and led by singer/songwriter/musician Alyxx Weishaar out of Rockland County, New York. The band’s sound is a mixture of Hard Rock and Metal with keyboard and synth driven elements. After consistently releasing popular covers over the last few years, Alyxx decided to embark on her solo career promoting her original material and building her own band.
In 2017, after many years of working together, Alyxx collaborated with Frank Bohr on her single “Taking Over.” This led to the start of what would become ALYXX, with Frank joining as the guitarist. Later in the summer of 2017, Dean, whom she had met while working on another project the year prior, joined ALYXX as the bassist. While working on ALYXX’s EP, Dean brought in Zaki Ali who then joined the band as the drummer. After months of hard work, ALYXX’s self-titled EP “ALYXX” was released in May 2018. Since then, the band has also released a single titled “This War” in April 2019.

When it comes to your music, what are you most excited for this year? How has 2020 been treating you so far?
So far 2020 has been great! I just released my brand new single “My Last Goodbye” and it has had such a positive response. I’m excited to release more new music and play more shows. I’m most excited for the Blue Ridge Rock Festival because I’ve never played a festival before.
Can you recall the moment when you thought you could be a musician? What do you think motivates you day in and day out? How has that changed over the years?
When I was younger, I was always singing and dancing around. My parents signed me up for dance lessons when I was 2, voice when I was 6 and acting when I was 7. I just remember being on stage as a kid and feeling at home. Even as a kid, I knew that my career would revolve around performing. Performing is my passion. It’s in my blood. My means of expression has changed throughout the years. I used to perform in musical theater, but now I get to express myself through my original music.
How do you think your hometown has influenced the kind of music that you make? If not, why is that?
I honestly don’t think my hometown has had a huge influence on my music. My town used to consist of pop punk bands and now it’s mostly metal bands, neither of which I feel my music falls into.
Growing up, how important was music in your life? Was your family and friends supportive of this career choice? If you weren’t a musician today, could you see yourself doing anything else?
My family is very musical. My mom used to do theater and growing up we would always sing show tunes together. She plays piano and has a beautiful voice. My dad used to be a drummer and used to teach me different rhythm patterns. My dad is also huge into stereo equipment, which helps me a ton when I need new gear. My sister was a performer as well growing up, and now she has her PhD in Biology. Music always filled my house, whether we were listening to Wicked The Musical or Van Halen. I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by incredibly supportive friends and family. My family still comes out to every show they can.
I am actually a professional makeup artist on the side, so I would say if anything, I could see myself having a career in that, but I really can’t see myself not doing music.
What has been the biggest surprise so far about making music your career? What has been an unexpected or welcome challenge to it all? What has been the best part?
I would say that the biggest surprise is seeing all the great responses I’ve gotten. The social media world can be cruel at times, but I can genuinely say that overall I’ve had positive reactions. Not just for my original music, but the cover that I post on my YouTube Page (youtube.com/ALYXX) as well. It’s such an amazing feeling when members of the band whose song I covered, reach out and compliment my version of their song.
What has it been like embarking on a solo career after being in a band? Do you think that you prefer one over the other right now?
ALYXX is a solo project, but I do have a band backing me. I like that I have the freedom to write whatever I want and have control over my vision. I’m very grateful to have Frank Bohr (Guitar) and Zaki Ali (Drums/Bass) help bring my music to life. They’re incredibly talented musicians, great performers and awesome people.
Let’s talk about your newest single, “My Last Goodbye.” What was the inspiration for this song? How would you say that it compares to your previous music?
I’ve witnessed a lot of my friends, as well as myself, be stuck in toxic situations throughout the years. “My Last Goodbye” was not written about one specific event, but rather an accumulation of frustrations. Writing is therapeutic for me and I express my emotions throughout my music. I always write about experiences that either I, or someone close to me have experienced.
Will you make a music video for “My Last Goodbye”? If so, what will it be like? If you could design your dream music video right now, what would it look like?
I would like to have a video for “My Last Goodbye”. The whole song is about leaving an unhealthy relationship and taking back control of your life. For the video, I’m picturing the band performing on top of a mountain. It would symbolize empowerment and feeling like you’re on top of the world. I’ve always wanted to have a video with some sort of pyrotechnics involved, so maybe I will be able to add some to this video. We’ll see.
Do you have plans to release more new music soon?
Yes! I’m always working on new music and I plan to release another single within the next few months.
Do you have any tour dates scheduled for this year yet?
I don’t have any tours planned at the moment, but I do have a few shows coming up. My next show will be April 3rd at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. All upcoming shows will be announced on my website www.officialalyxx.com!
How do you think you have grown as a musician since you first started making music? How has the band’s vision changed? What if anything has stayed the same about your music-making process?
I wrote my first song when I was 15. It was called “My Destiny” and it was just piano and vocals. The song wasn’t half bad, but I think I have come a long way since then. My music now is definitely more complex and has more depth lyrically. I still write all my songs on piano first, even the heavier ones.
How do you feel about social media? What do you think social media has done for your career so far?
Social media is a great platform to promote yourself on a global scale and build a following. I’ve made a lot of great connections with other musicians, booking agents and radio hosts through social media. It also allows me to interact with my fans on a personal level. It has honestly been a great help for my career.
What musicians would you absolutely love to work with in the future?
I would love to work with Amy Lee, Adam Gontier, Lzzy Hale and Benjamin Burnley.
Where would you love to hear a song of yours played?
I would love to hear my music played on Sirius Octane.
At the end of the day, what do you hope people take away from your music?
I hope people can listen to my music and be able to relate to it. I try to send a positive message through my lyrics to remind myself and those listening, that you can take control over your life and the power to be happy comes from within.
