An argument over loud music led to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old in Round Rock on Tuesday afternoon, according to an arrest affidavit.

The document filed Thursday provides more details on the death of Brian Navarro, 17, who police said was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon after being rushed to the Ascension Seton Williamson emergency room in Round Rock.

Gabriel Anthony Hernandez, 17, faces a murder charge in Navarro’s death. If found guilty, he could receive up to 99 years in prison.

The affidavit says Hernandez initially told police he visited his family’s house on Ashwood Court on Tuesday afternoon to pick up a vacuum cleaner. While loading the vacuum cleaner into his car, Hernandez initially told a police investigator that Navarro approached him while holding his waistband, suggesting he had a gun, according to the affidavit.

But in a second interview at the Police Department, Hernandez admitted he fired at Navarro from his family’s front yard and moved toward him as he fired additional shots.

A family member of Hernandez’s living next door to Navarro’s family said Navarro was upset over loud music coming from their driveway, the affidavit says. Hernandez told police the families had been arguing for several months, it says.

The incident marks the first murder charge this year in Round Rock. There were three homicides in Round Rock last year.
