Bay Area music spotlight for July: Listen to these 3 acts – The Mercury News

Check out these three new releases from local artists:

“Woolsey,” LifeSize

The San Jose State University graduate’s poignant new album is inspired by his own experience during the Woolsey Fire, the devastating wildfire that burned nearly 100,000 acres in Southern California and forced LifeSize and so many others to evacuate their homes in 2018.

The music is impressive on so many different levels, resulting in a collection of vastly appealing roots-rock tunes that should appeal to fans of Mark Knopfler, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Plus, it supports a good cause, with 100 percent of the album sales being donated to DirectRelief (directrelief.org), an organization supporting health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Problem Addict,” Once and Future Band

The Oakland space-pop band somehow manages to sound both retro and futuristic at the same time — like somehow you’ve come across a lost Brian Eno track — on the “Problem Addict.” And I guess that makes perfect sense, given the band’s name. Visit: www.facebook.com/OnceAndFutureBand.

“Songs We’ll Always Sing — A Tribute to the Pilgrim Jubilees,” the Sons of the Soul Revivers

The Vallejo-based gospel group, which got its start in 1970, is celebrating both its 50th anniversary and the release of a brand new album. The album pays tribute to the iconic Pilgrim Jubilee, the sensational gospel troupe that has been making music since the mid-1930s. Visit: littlevillagefoundation.com.
