Kenny Davis is a native of Chicago, Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. Upon entering Northeastern University, he discovered jazz music and he quickly became part of the Chicago jazz scene. Kenny moved to New York in 1986, where he played with Out of the Blue (OTB), and then quickly adapted to the New York scene, appearing with such artists as Freddie Hubbard, Cassandra Wilson, Abbey Lincoln, Diane Reeves, and Art Farmer, while studying music with Ron Carter. One of the highlights of his career was being a music arranger for a song on the Grammy Award-winning CD by artist Cassandra Wilson, “Blue Light Till Dawn”. Throughout the ’90s, Davis toured with such notable jazz artists as Herbie Hancock, Dianne Reeves, and Art Farmer. Kenny was also the bassist of The Tonight Show Band from September 1999 through March 2002. Kenny was the bass teacher at the University of Connecticut (UCONN) from 2003 through 2009. Also, in May 2006 Kenny received his Master of Music (MA) from Rutgers University. Sesame Street comes to Jazz at Lincoln Center for a swinging celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary. See some of your favorite feathered and furry friends like Big Bird and Elmo sing classic Sesame Street songs alongside the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. It’s hard to imagine Sesame Street without music. The iconic show has featured many unforgettable tunes performed by real jazz musicians like trumpeter Kenny Rampton, a longtime member of both the JLCO and the Sesame Street band. Combining the skills of an old school entertainer and virtuoso jazz man, bassist, vocalist and composer Jay Leonhart has been a fixture of the New York scene for over forty years. When Jay was fourteen he started playing the bass in The Pier Five Dixieland Jazz Band in Baltimore and never looked back. After studying at The Peabody Institute, Jay attended The Berklee School of Music and The Advanced School of Contemporary Music in Toronto, before leaving school to start touring with the traveling big bands of the late 50’s and early 60’s. Upon moving to New York, Jay eventually began playing for many of the great jazz musicians, big bands, and singers who were to be found in New York – artists like Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, Tony Bennett, Marian McPartland, and Jim Hall. Jay became a very busy studio musician in New York City, visiting every musical genre from James Taylor to Ozzy Osbourne and Queen Latifah.
