BTS, Maroon 5 And The Killers: 5 Releases Making Waves On The U.K. Albums Chart – Forbes

There aren’t many high-profile launches from international superstars on this week’s albums chart in the U.K., but a handful of projects are celebrating noteworthy anniversaries, while several other popular releases either rise or fall on the list.

Here are five titles that make waves on this week’s U.K. albums chart.

No. 1 – The Killers – Imploding the Mirage

The Killers don’t just land another No. 1 album this week, they outperform every other title in the U.K. by a sizable margin. In fact, according to the Official Charts Company, the rock band’s new release Imploding the Mirage racked up more equivalent units in its debut frame than the rest of the top five combined, making it far and away the champion this time around.

With another instant win to their credit, the Las Vegas-based outfit makes history as the first international act to land half a dozen consecutive No. 1 launches from their debut.

No. 25 – Oasis – Time Flies… 1994–2009

It seems like every few frames, one Oasis release or another celebrates hitting some special milestone…but that’s not terribly surprising, given that all of their projects have performed extremely well and that the band often occupies several spaces on the ranking at once.

This time around, the beloved act’s Time Flies… 1994–2009 is still going strong inside the top 40 at No. 25 as it hits 364 weeks, or exactly seven years, on the ranking. It’s impressive that several traditional albums from the group and their greatest hits compilation are all still present, but that just goes to show how popular Oasis remains to this day.

No. 54 – Maroon 5 – Singles

As they continue to work on their next album (which has already spun off two hit singles), Maroon 5’s greatest hits compilation Singles moves a sizable number of equivalent units every frame, and now it has hit another notable birthday on the U.K. chart. The set, which features some of their most successful tracks, such as “Sugar,” “Payphone” and “This Love,” among many others, has now spent 156 weeks, or three years, on the tally.

No. 91 – Sea Girls – Open Up Your Head

Last week, indie outfit Sea Girls scored their first top 10 album with Open Up Your Head, which performed surprisingly well, opening at No. 3. In its second frame on the chart, the title hasn’t just fallen from its perch, it’s cratered.

This turn, the band’s set falls from No. 3 to No. 91, narrowly holding on and finding space for a another turn. It’s not terribly uncommon for a project to dip below the top 10 after just one spin inside the highest tier, but it is unusual for a set that is so successful one week to be so unpopular the following.

No. 97 – BTS – Map of the Soul: 7

As their new single “Dynamite” opens at No. 3 on the U.K. songs chart, granting them their first top 10 smash in the U.K., BTS’s most recent Korean-language album Map of the Soul: 7 returns to the ranking, climbing back onto the list with just a few spaces between it and the very bottom.

Map of the Soul: 7 revisits the ranking at No. 97 in its fourteenth frame on the tally, which makes it the second-longest-charting project by a South Korean musical act in U.K. history.
