Mile High Jazz Band Association continues the 2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival’s series of live-streamed, streamed, and virtual events through September. The next event, on Sunday, September 13, features Niall McGuinness & the New World Jazz Project playing soul, Latin, and world jazz from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The five-piece band, including reeds, keyboard, bass, drums, and percussion, will be live-streamed from Empire Ranch Golf by A to Zen Media.

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. “Bob” Crowell died overnight. He was 74.
Robert L. “Bob” Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

Through a public records request, we uncovered new details on the Douglas County library debacle, which began in July when Douglas County library director Amy Dodson supported adopting a diversity statement and backing Black Lives Matter.

The Carson City School District reported an additional three positive COVID-19 cases. Two of the persons work in the transportation department with a connection to the previously reported case.
Those employees previously identified will continue to quarantine for the recommended isolation period, and transportation services will resume as soon as possible (at the earliest, Sept. 22, but possibly longer if more employees test positive).
The third confirmed case is an individual at Carson High School.
