StrobobeanPhoto: strobobean.bandcamp.comThis week, Cincinnati Indie Rock trio Strobobean is releasing a new split single with Cleveland band Forager. Both acts will be performing at Over-the-Rhine’s MOTR Pub Friday night (Aug. 30) for a free 10 p.m. show in honor of the joint effort, which features two songs from each band and will be available digitally and — at the release show — on cassette. The groups will team up again Saturday on Forager’s turf, playing a release show at Cleveland’s Grog Shop.
Strobobean was started last year by Katrina Eresman (vocals/guitar) and Jake Langknecht (drums), who are also bandmates in Pop Empire. Initially a duo, they soon added Brianna Kelly — frontperson of Cincy band Soften, among other projects — on bass guitar. Strobobean put out its debut release, the four-song EP Winter, this past May.
Strobobean’s contributions to the split single are the tracks “Walking Alone” and “Ghost,” which you can listen to below. The song’s dynamic guitar textures, compelling melodic atmosphere and winding song structure are reminiscent of Post Punk heroes like Sonic Youth, Fugazi and Scrawl.
“‘Ghost’ is a dark desert cruiser,” Eresman says, “but instead of traveling through the west it follows a love story in the hills of southern Indiana where my late grandfather Henry still courts my grandmother, who waits patiently for his phantom appearance each night.”
