The 2019 Highland Jazz and Blues Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Columbia Plaza in Shreveport.
The 16th annual outdoor music jam fest is a celebration of regional jazz and blues music, musicians and the historic, artistic Highland neighborhood.
Listen, dance, play, shop, eat, drink and be merry while soaking up the Highland spirit.
Here’s your guide to the three-day festival weekend, beginning with a pub-style preview party and ending with a tearoom jazz brunch.
Friday’s Preview Party
If you need more than one day of music and fun, festival organizers have you covered.
The HJBF Preview Party opens the weekend, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at Flying Heart Brewing & Pub, located at 700 Barksdale Blvd. in Bossier City’s East Bank District.
Flying Heart Brewing will have its signature and guest taps flowing with craft beer, plus bartenders serving cocktails at the full bar.

Hang out on the beer patio and hear vocalist/keyboardist Stanton Hoffman and his band perform.
Share a pizza or appetizer with friends and family from the taproom’s in-house kitchen. Check out the full beer and food menu at flyingheartbrewing.com.
Saturday’s Festival
Make your festival-going experience easy and breezy by knowing where to park, what to bring (and not to bring), and how to fully indulge in all of the offerings and activities.
The festival is at Columbia Park and parking will be limited on the residential streets. Skip circling the block for a parking spot — head over to Mall St. Vincent. Free shuttle service will pick up and drop off in the north parking lot near Dillard’s, courtesy of iShuttle. The shuttle station at Columbia Park will be at the Gazebo Stage at Line and Columbia, also near the marketplace at the Creswell Street. Shuttles run from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The family- and pet-friendly festival is free admission. Consider popping up a chair or laying out a blanket and staying for a full day and evening of entertainment.
More than 75 regional vendors will be on site.

Stay hydrated and fed by food and beverage vendors. Drink trailers will have craft and domestic beers, plus wines and spirits.
The festival is funded largely by non-alcoholic and adult beverages sales, so this is a way for festivalgoers to support the HJBF non-profit organization to keep the music going for years to come.
Regional restaurants and food trucks will be selling hot meals, light snacks and cool treats throughout the park.
Continue the local support by shopping at the marketplace where you’ll find fashion, visual art, jewelry, and more original wares made by area entrepreneurs. And pick up official HJBF merchandise, including a print of this year’s collectible poster designed by Shreveport artist Marci Gatlin Hicks of Jobean Creative.
Keep the kids moving and grooving at Columbia Park’s playground and the HJBF Kid’s Zone, sponsored by Lang Orthodontics. Activities will be provided by community partners, including The Rotary Club learning bus, Bossier Art Council, Sci-Port Discovery Center, and Shreveport Aquarium.
Let your pooch get into the action at the dog pampering and play area. The Dog Area, sponsored by Raising Cane’s, will offer water stations, treats, nail trims and more.
And, of course, there will be music.
Two music stages will rotate with local and regional acts performing groove-infused, dance-inducing tunes.
The first act of the day begins at 11:15 a.m. with music going strong until 6 p.m.
Margie Perez, co-headliner, is a singer-songwriter from New Orleans who melds bayou sounds with blues, pop and Latin music styles. Catch her on stage at 1:15 p.m.
The night will end with a bang with festival headliner Big Sam’s Funky Nation — a six-piece New Orleans funk, jazz, rock and hip-hop band. The band’s set begins at 4:45 p.m.
