The IU Cinema will stream the concert film, “Jazz on a Summer’s Day,” with the purchase of a $10 virtual ticket this Thursday. Ticket buyers can stream the film on various electronic devices for 72 hours after the date of purchase.
“Jazz on a Summer’s Day” is a 1959 documentary concert film that features performances by artists such as Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, Dinah Washington, Chico Hamilton, Thelonious Monk and Anita O’Day at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1958 in Rhode Island. It was directed by Bert Stern and Aram Avakian.
The IU Cinema will stream the 4K restoration of “Jazz on a Summer’s Day” as part of its International Arthouse Series, which features new film releases from around the world, according to the IU Cinema website. Other films in this series include “Days of the Whale,” which will be available for streaming Aug. 27.
The film “Jazz on a Summer’s Day” is also part of the IU Cinema Virtual Screening Room series, which will feature weekly online programming of new film releases, conversations with filmmakers and curated student film programs, according to the IU Cinema website.
Half of ticket revenue will go to the IU Cinema.
