PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Music will soon be returning to the Khyber Pass Pub in Old City.
In its heyday, the Khyber Pass Pub was known as a live indie music and punk rock venue.
“We had people like Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, like notable bands come through here,” said Andrew Wallace.
The music then came to a stop in 2010, but when Andrew Wallace, took over as general manager two months ago, he vowed to change things there.
“I foresee it becoming almost exactly what it was before, with little twinges here and there to make it that much better,” he said. “Before, it was known as a punk place. I want it (now) to be knows as a place for several different entities like I want people to come from all walks of life.”
He says they expect to have a full time events schedule up and running by next month.
“I think the bands, if we do it correctly will be Friday and Saturday nights and the rest of the week will be something dedicated for each individual night, whether it be a karaoke, whether it be a movie night, whether it be some sort of bingo thing,” he explained.
Ever since they started doing a few shows here and there, Wallace says, word has gotten out that the Kyber is booking bands again.
“A lot of bands that played here before are hitting us up like, ‘Hey, we would love to come back. We haven’t been there for so long, we’d love to see it again,’” he said.
