Muskegon-born, Detroit-raised singer Bettye LaVette will be part of the Blues Hall of Fame’s 2020 class of inductees.

The Blue Foundation revealed the latest roll call Tuesday, ahead of the May 6 ceremony in Memphis. LaVette will be celebrated alongside contemporary and historic figures including Syl Johnson, Billy Branch, Victoria Spivey, George (Harmonica) Smith and Eddie Boyd.

LaVette, 73, is the latest Michigan musician inducted to the blues hall, following artists such as John Lee Hooker and Aretha Franklin.

After a varied but largely low-key career early in life, LaVette has enjoyed a 21st century resurgence, racking up Grammy nominations and winning new fans with her stylish interpretations of classic and modern rock.

LaVette is headed home for an intimate, sold-out show Dec. 21 in Aretha’s Jazz Cafe at Music Hall.
