Missoula’s rock and roll culture dates back decades and this semester – a University of Montana history class is highlighting Missoula’s music past.

Students in Leif Fredrickson’s Intro to Public History class spent the past few months researching and interviewing local musicians.

The work paid off on Friday, as students opened an exhibit highlighting their work.

The displays dive into local bands, venues, and record store histories.

Austin Haney did his project on the infamous Aber Day Kegger, and says this course changed his perspective on music.

“I think it’s something that everybody can relate to. I know as a musician myself, it’s kind of considered the universal language. We might not all be able to speak the same thing, we might not share all the same bits of history, but one bit that we all share is music.”

Saturday, there will be a rock show from 6:30 to 11 at the Zootown Arts Community Center.
