For the first time since 2013, a new Pearl Jam album is coming our way.
After spending the weekend ramping up the anticipation, the band has announced Gigaton will arrive on March 27th. And there’s more: a North American tour is in the works.
The title of the new album first appeared as part of a scavenger hunt that sent fans to billboards in eleven cities around the world.
A gigaton is the measurement for the melting of polar ice caps, which seems to indicate that Pearl Jam – never one to shy away from social commentary – has something to say about climate change this time around.
“Making this record was a long journey,” guitarist Mike McCready said in a statement. “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.”
The North American tour kicks off March 18th in Toronto and runs through April 19th in Oakland. The band will then head to Europe for previously announced concerts.
