Events in Kuala Lumpur from 6 to 12 January 2020:
1. PLAYGROUND by Alya Hatta
Alya Hatta is an emerging artist who is exploring the bittersweet ups and downs of coming into adulthood with her collection, Playground. These artworks survey the emotions of her self-confessional life discography, like danger, love and joy. Hatta’s hopes for her art is that it will connect with others who share parallel experiences. ZHAN Art is open from Monday to Sunday from 11am to 7pm, but closed for the Chinese New Year holidays.
2. 7th Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival
It’s a celebration of all things jazzy this weekend. Fantastic performances from homegrown and international acts aside, a highlight is the annual Jazz Talent Competition for young local talents. There will be free workshops conducted by jazz educators, so expect the festival to be both entertaining and educational.
3. Cracking Heads! An Interactive Comedy Workshop
Crackhouse Comedy is stepping into 2020 with a new concept of work-in-progress shows. Intended for the big-guns of comedy to try out new material, you, as a crowd member, will get to witness the shaping of their sets. The shows are interactive in that they’re a chance for the comedian and crowd to discover hidden punchlines and premises. Additionally, lucky audience members stand a chance to win free tickets to the Weekend International Shows.
4. 2020 BuJo Setup Workshop
Make this the start of an organised year with help from bullet journal connoisseurs, Summarie. This workshop will be hugely beneficial to beginners as it goes through the basics of bullet journalling, teaches you how to streamline tasks, and create templates that cater to your daily life – with pretty doodles and colours. Light refreshments are provided, but you will need to bring your own blank bullet journal.
5. Brew N Brush: Rippling Granite
Whether you’ve got an inner Bob Ross to unleash or simply in it for good fun, Brew N Brush is where you can get your paint on while hanging out with some cool people. The sessions are held three times a week starting with The Roof on Friday, Knowhere on Saturday and Marimbar on Sunday. All painting material needed to create your own acrylic art piece will be provided. Spaces are limited to 20 so be sure to book your spot early.
