This year we will feature four jazz musicians making their Provincetown Jazz Festival debuts:
· Johnny Souza, Trumpeter/Singer/Composer, is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music where he majored in music performance. He performs with some of the top names in jazz and his group regularly performs at concert venues and jazz clubs. Johnny’s band has also performed at Boston’s Symphony Hall on multiple occasions. He has two recordings as leader to his credit: “My Shining Hour” and “Meet Me in the City” which are both in circulation on jazz radios stations and receive national airplay. Johnny’s original song “Boston Hub of my Heart” has received rave reviews and has been featured at Fenway Park.
· Peter & Will Anderson “Virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone” (New York Times), identical twins Peter and Will Anderson are two of the most extraordinary jazz woodwind players today. Born and raised in Washington D.C., the Andersons moved to New York City to attend The Juilliard School. They’ve performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Wycliffe Gordon, Paquito D’Rivera and can be heard on the 2014 Grammy-winning soundtrack of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire with Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks. They’ve headlined at The Blue Note, Kennedy Center, New Orleans Jazz Festival, and live on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion Radio Program. The Andersons have headlined in over 45 U.S. states, throughout Brazil, Japan, the U.K., and six times in NYC’s famed “Highlights in Jazz” series, alongside Jimmy Heath, Ken Peplowski, Steve Turre, and Jimmy Cobb. Vanity Fair magazine listed their debut album in “Four New Releases to Make You Love Jazz,” and the Washington Post called their music “imaginatively unfolding in ways that consistently bring a fresh perspective to classic jazz.”
· Leslie Boyle (vocals) came to Cape Cod when she was 10-years-old and her first solo performance was in 8th grade when she sang in front of an audience of over 400 people and received her first standing ovation. Leslie can be found performing across Cape Cod for concerts, events, parties, and restaurants with the Bart Weisman Jazz Group, Bart Weisman Klezmer Swing Group, Cape Conservatory Jazz Ensemble (big band), Mike Dumas Band, and pianist/husband Fred Boyle. Leslie is a versatile singer with a wide range of musical styles.
Tickets are $30.00 per concert and a portion of the proceeds from the festival are donated to Jazz in the Schools Program on Cape Cod and other worthy causes.
