Saxophone legend Pharoah Sanders will headline the 2020 Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, which runs June 5-14 at the Flynn Center and other venues throughout town.
The festival released part of this year’s schedule Monday morning, with more to follow. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 to Friends of Discover Jazz and at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14 to the general public.
The schedule revealed Monday features:
– 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, Grammy-winning blues-rocker Fantastic Negrito, a winner of NPR’s “Tiny Desk” contest, plays opening night at the Flynn Center. $15-$45.
– 8 p.m. Saturday, June 6, renowned saxophone player Pharoah Sanders, whose scheduled show at last year’s festival was canceled, with the Vermont All State Jazz Ensemble, Flynn Center. $15-$55.
– 6 and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, Chicago trumpet player Jaimie Branch performs two sets, FlynnSpace. $30.
– 6 and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, Afro-Cuban fusion player Yosvany Terry also offers two sets at FlynnSpace. $30.
– 6 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, adventurous guitarist Marc Ribot sits down for a pair of shows at FlynnSpace. $40.
– 6 and 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 14, British saxophone player Nubya Garcia rounds out the festival’s final day with two sets, FlynnSpace. $30.
The festival also announced one of the participants in the opening-night event Levitate Live that presents free music on the Church Street Marketplace. The soulful Seattle-based Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio will play the top block of Church Street on June 5.
