SHERBURNE – The Sherburne Music-Theater Society (SMTS) has announced a special virtual performance which will go live at 7 p.m. this Saturday.
The Sherburne Music-Theater Society is an award-winning community theatre whose dedication to excellence, while providing an opportunity for talented local thespians and musicians to utilize their skills, has provided many audiences with memorable performances and statewide recognition. SMTS is a member of the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) and the American Association of Community Theatres (AACT).
According to Sherburne Music-Theater Society Representative Emilee Janitz, the production, titled “Chasing the Blues Away III” pays homage to two cabaret performances put on by the theater group in the past and was created in the hopes of lifting spirits during a time of isolation and limited community involvement opportunity.

“We had the idea to put together a virtual performance after having to cancel the play we had originally scheduled for the summer,” said Janitz. “We realized that now, more than ever, people need the arts.”
“Our goal was to provide local performers with an opportunity to stay involved with music and theater this summer.”
Janitz said the production features 11 local performers, all singing a song of choice alongside piano accompaniment. She said the show was produced in partnership with the Earlville Opera House, the theater group’s stage of residence, and its historic architecture and ambience is highlighted throughout the performance.
