This week, both Brandy and Alanis Morissette are back after eight-year breaks with soul-baring albums of self-discovery, catharsis and healing. Other artists, like Land of Talk, composer Max Richter and singer Thanya Iyer, go deep on kindness, both with each other and ourselves. On this week’s show, we give those new records a spin, along with the retro sound of country singer Charley Crockett, a stunning debut from the young rapper and singer Dominic Fike and more. NPR Music’s Bobby Carter, WBGO and Jazz Night in America‘s Nate Chinen, NPR Music contributor Gavin Godfrey, NPR Music’s Tom Huizenga, Marissa Lorusso and NPR’s Ann Powers all join host Robin Hilton as they share their picks for the best new albums out on July 31.
