Tampa fans will undoubtedly be tempted to stay close to home on Saturday when Nate Najar plays the Indie’s long-running first Saturday jazz series, but they might want to change gears and head over the bridge for this set where Adolfo Mendonca Trio—joined in St. Pete by La Lucha bassist Alejandro Arenas and Mark drummer Feinman, plus singer Andrea Thompson and Helios Jazz Orchestra conductor, Dr. David Manson—plays Brazilian jazz.
“This concert is part of a series of performances in Brazil, Mexico and the United States. I want to do intercultural performances, playing and promoting international music,” Mendonça said in a release. “In the Blue Note, in Brazil, I’ve promoted and played the evolution of jazz. Now, in the United States, we will promote, perform and demonstrate the evolution of Brazilian music.”
Adolfo Mendonça Trio. Sat. Feb. 1, 7 p.m. $15-$20. Studio@620, St. Petersburg. Thestudioat620.org.
