Patrick Cage, a long-time supporter of the Texas Jazz Festival and the nonprofit’s marketing coordinator, died Tuesday. He was 48.

The Texas Jazz Festival took to Facebook on Wednesday with  condolences to Cage’s family and friends.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our Associate Board Members and Marketing Coordinator, Patrick Cage,” the post said. 

The post has received more than 22 shares, 30 comments and 84 likes.

Rene Guzman, vice president of the Jazz Festival Society, said Cage had been involved with the group for about 12 years.

Guzman said Cage’s passion and commitment to the festival made it what it is today.

“His efforts, knowledge and skills helped build the festival to the size and attendance it is now,” Guzman said. “He did a lot to market the festival in Corpus Christi but also nationwide.”

Guzman said Cage also lended a hand to other nonprofit organizations in the community free of charge.

“He was just always caring and giving,” Guzman said. “As a colleague but especially as a friend. He would drop everything he was doing to help me when I needed something, whether it was for the festival or for me personally. He was a very good friend to me.”

Guzman said Cage’s death is not only a huge loss for the Jazz Festival Society  and the festival, but to the community as well.

“We lost an incredible man who was dedicated to helping others in the community,” Guzman said. “He will be greatly missed.”
