Country music legend Charlie Daniels died Monday morning at age 83, and shortly after fans and celebrities began expressing their condolences.
Daniels, who lived in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, died after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. His death was confirmed by his publicist, Don Murry Grubbs.
“This #Legend @CharlieDaniels was at the core of my roots & influences in music,” singer and songwriter Billy Ray Cyrus tweeted. “We recorded “Just As I Am” together for his Grammy winnin Gospel Album. “Oh lamb of God I come…I come” sings the hymn. An honor to call him my friend. Fiddle’s gonna be roarin in heaven tonight.”
“Absolutely gutted to hear the news of @CharlieDaniels passing this morning… what a life lived, and what an incredible human being. He will be sorely missed,” country music singer Chris Young posted.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee tweeted he was heartbroken to learn the news.
“A wonderful entertainer, Christian gentleman, servant to our veterans like no other, & humble, kind man despite being multi-talented, successful, and hard working. #heartbroken,” Huckabee posted on Twitter.
“He can look all he wants, but the devil can’t steal his soul,” Twitter user Larry Carter posted online.
Country legend Travis Tritt posted his heart was crushed when he learned of Daniels’ passing.
“Charlie was the first legendary artist to take me under his wing and encourage me when I was first getting started in the business,” Tritt posted on Instagram. “He was always there for me when I needed him. I have so many great memories of touring, performing, writing and recording with Charlie, but my favorite memories are of simply talking with the man when it was just the two of us alone. Farewell dear friend until we meet again. Thank you for being such a friend, mentor and inspiration to me. I will always be grateful.”
“The country music flag is flying at half mast today,” country music singer Luke Combs posted. “RIP Charlie Daniels.”
“Today America lost A Great American who loved God Family Country and our brave heroes,” Sean Hannity posted. “Heaven has a new angel today. God speed Charlie Daniels.”
“Just learning of the passing of this great man,,” country music star Luke Bryan posted. “What a hero. A true patriot, Christian, and country music icon. Prayers to his family. Thank you for all your contributions on and off the stage. God bless you Charlie Daniels.”
