Ukulele star Taimane ready to rock Palo Alto JCC – The Mercury News

The world is full of exciting Ukulele players who are redefining how the instrument is played and perceived. Musicians like Jake Shimabukuro and James Hill are known for delivering exhilarating shows and stretching the boundaries of the instrument.

Add Taimane to the list. The Hawaii native of Samoan descent, said to have been discovered among a group of street buskers by Hawaiian icon Don Ho, is known for delving into rock, flamenco and other genres with her dazzling style.

Taimane recently released a new album of originals and covers, titled “Elemental,” and comes to Palo Alto’s Oshman Family JCC on Oct. 26. She’ll perform with a percussionist, guitarist and Polynesian-style dancer Enormvs Muñoz.
