Valentine’s Day falls on Friday, Feb. 14, and lovers will no doubt be hitting the town for dinners, movies and shows throughout Delmarva this weekend.
One annual event that usually occurs on the weekend of Valentine’s Day is the Dewey Winter Gala. Take note that the 2020 edition will actually happen next week on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m.
It will take place at the new Lighthouse Cove & Event Center on the bay at Dickinson Street in Dewey Beach. This was the former location of the Baycenter at Ruddertowne (and Crabber’s Cove). A new bar is currently being constructed next to it at the site of the Lighthouse Raw Bar.
The Dewey Winter Gala will feature Kristen & the Noize, the Blue Cat Blues Band and the Amish Outlaws. Tickets are $90 and include food and beverages; partial proceeds will benefit the town’s safety and beautification programs.
In the more immediate future, the Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin has a classic-rock tribute act set to take the stage Saturday, Feb. 15. Damn the Torpedoes will pay homage to the music of the late Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Tickets are $20, which includes a $10 credit for casino games.
Those who enjoy have their funny bone tickled would do well to visit the Milton Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14. Local comedian Keith Purnell will host his battle of the sexes titled The “He Said, She Said” Stand-Up Comedy Show ($8, $13.) Participants include Sophia DiCapula, Tim Grill, Latice Mitchell and Corey Alexander.
The theater will present the return of the Philadelphia-based Peek-A-Boo Revue burlesque show at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 ($20, $25). Note that while the theater often presents all-ages events, both of this weekend’s aforementioned shows are for ages 18 and up only and identification will be required at the door.
